What to Expect

The following information will hopefully answer some questions about how Sunday mornings work at River City.

 Welcome

When you walk through the doors, you’ll be warmly welcomed by one of our greeters and most likely offered a cup of coffee, because well, we love our coffee at River City.

Kids in Worship

We love kids in our worship services! If you would like to have your child stay with you during the service, please do. We do not consider kids to be a distraction. They are an important part of the Body of Christ and have a vital role in the church. We do provide some really great alternative options for children ministry during our service, if you feel that would better suit your child.
Our greeters will be able to direct you to our nursery for children 6 weeks-4 years old. And if you have older children, half-way through the service, children ages K-5th grade may choose to go to SPLASH! Children’s Ministry, a worship service specially designed for them, led by our Children’s Minister, Hannah Bryant.

Connection & Hospitality Tables

When you walk into our worship space, you’ll find two important tables to visit. First is our connection table filled with information for
upcoming events, small groups and our monthly mission opportunities. Second is our hospitality table where you’ll find that coffee we mentioned before. The coffee is complimentary and feel free to snag a doughnut too if the River City kids haven’t devoured them.

During the Service

At River City UMC, our services are very casual and filled with music, scripture, prayer, and a sermon from our pastor,
Rev. Derek Robinette. While we often use a more modern, contemporary style of music for our worship, we also enjoy singing the hymns that have been sung for many years throughout the United Methodist tradition. You’ll notice we don’t just let Pastor Derek do all the talking. Scripture is often read by people in our congregation and most weeks you’ll hear one our members share a testimony or a story about how God has moved and is moving in their life.

Communion

Each of our services ends with communion, also known as the Lord’s Supper. The table of Holy Communion is Christ’s table, not the table of The United Methodist Church or of River City. The table is open to anyone who seeks to respond to Christ’s love and to lead a new life of peace and love.
